The Great California Roadtrip

Zev & Co. totally covered the West Coast last week, visiting family and friends, hitting the beaches, cruising past redwoods, eating at Clint Eastwood's place, staying in the Swiss Chalet room at the Madonna Inn, touching mollusks in Monterey, hanging with grandma and great-grandpa, and getting close with bees, tigers and trains. Some photo highlights here.

But with sprinkles.

The View from Zev's Lens

For his third birthday Zev got a Vtech kids' digital camera, which he immediately unleashed upon the unsuspecting citizens of Catalina Island. Here's a small sampling of his work.

Fish Taco + the Beach = America!

The Fourth of July was meant, we're pretty sure, to be celebrated in Huntington Beach. With Savta, and her pool, and Sketch, and Wahoo's, and the largest Independence Day parade west of the Mississippi, and free beach balls imprinted with ads for Mexican plastic surgeons. Happy birthday, America!

Happy Birthday, Zev!

He's 3. He knows it. He can't get over what a big boy he is and all the big boy gear he's got and the big boy things he can do. More on the festivities later, but happy birthday, little man.

Cubs Win!

As a now-annual tradition, Zev takes Kevin to a Dodgers game for their shared (well, one-day-apart) birthdays. This year, the Cubs dominate, Zev scores himself what he calls "my new hard baseball bat" and Kevin puts back two Dodger dogs. Everybody wins.

Look! Over There! It's My Fading Baby-dom!

As Zev peddles fast toward his third birthday(!), he continues to astound and impress his parents. Hard to believe that just a year ago this same boy burst into tears when his mom refused to honor his request to turn her head 360 degrees. Now look at him!

Serious Gear for the Serious Swimmer

Not only are his new goggles stylin', they inspired his best-ever swim class. Thanks, teacher Chris, for the suggestion!

This is what Zev says, just walking down the street on his third day there. Other highlights: The dinosaur museum, two trips to Max Brenner (aka the Chocolate Restaurant), rain, rain, rain, a yellow umbrella Zev refused to share, staying in Times Square, taking in THE LION KING on Broadway, finding swings, riding the subway, seeing Grandpa and Granny Marion, seeing Keith, Rick & Lisa, Steve & Lyn and Sarah Michelle Gellar, a $40 soup at some Upper East Side sandwich shop, reading books at The Strand until closing, pizza, noodles, hot chocolate and stopping to sit on pretty much every bench in Central Park.
